CBI (Certified Business Intermediary)

The Certified Business Intermediary (CBI) designation is a professional credential awarded by the International Business Brokers Association (IBBA) to business brokers who meet educational, experience, and ethical requirements. CBI holders must complete coursework covering business valuation, transaction structuring, marketing, and professional ethics, and must pass a written examination.

The CBI is one of the two primary credentials in the Canadian and North American business brokerage profession, alongside the M&AMI designation for practitioners focused on mid-market transactions. Holding a CBI signals that a broker has completed formal professional training and is subject to the IBBA's code of professional ethics.
